Super Natural #1 marks the first solo exhibition by Devon Turnbull in Korea. Widely known by his creative pen name OJAS, the Brooklyn-based speaker sculptor and sound expert is also the founder of the high-end audio company OJAS. Turnbull has captivated music enthusiasts worldwide with his meticulously crafted high-performance speakers, subwoofers, tube amplifiers, and other audio devices. He invites his audience to immerse themselves in music in what he calls a “shrine to music”—a unique listening environment equipped with a hi-fi system, brutalist speakers, and seating for meditation.
Turnbull’s speaker sculpture and installation, which combines his knowledge of sound engineering and creative artistry, has been widely acclaimed for offering an innovative way to bring music and meditation together within the realm of art in modern society. Turnbull’s sound system, evolving over the years, reignites music as a powerful artistic form rather than mere background sound. This new dimensional environment, where light, sound, and layers of air are delicately intertwined, makes it possible for musicians and listeners, artists and audiences, individuals and society to connect and resonate with each other.
