LIFEPLUS will hold special exhibition project Salon Hannam 2024 at Hanwha General Insurance Company Building, previously named Replace Hannam from September 4 to 14. Salon Hannam 2024 pays homage to the European salon culture that took place from the 15th to 19th centuries. Replete with aesthetic experiences and moments of inspiration, salons served as a stage for conversation, artistic exchange, and patronage. Salon Hannam invites visitors to enjoy different forms of art and culture anew, showcasing works by a wide range of artists who work with sound, light, and more traditional mediums like paintings, sculpture, and photography.
The exhibition is divided into five parts according to the periods and themes. The first space hosts the group exhibition Everyday Nature, organized by former curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Christopher Y. Lew, and curator Jee Young Maeng for C/O: Curatorial Office. The Artists’ Room hosts Devon Turnbull: Super Natural #1. The presentation features the work of Brooklyn-based speaker sculptor and sound expert Devon Turnbull. Presented at the Atrium, A Forest of Blossoming Wonders, is a work by the Italian-British design duo Giopato & Coombes organized by curator Valentina Buzzi. Inspired by spring in Korea, the installation features handcrafted glass spheres resembling plum blossoms with brass structures. The fourth venue, Salon PLUS incorporates a collaboration with internationally renowned contemporary art galleries: Galerie Chantal Crousel, Petzel, and Regen Projects. Showcasing the works by Fabrice Gygi, Oscar Tuazon, Kevin Beasley, and Seth Price, this space will introduce such traditional media artworks in the space filled with contemporary designer furniture. The final gallery features a special exhibition, Imaginary Worlds: Female Surrealism, organized in collaboration with Sotheby’s, who established its physical presence in the country with the opening of its Seoul Space in Hannam Hwawon Building last year.
LIFEPLUS hopes to explore the new definition of art ecosystem in collaboration with various artists, galleries, and curators through Salon Hannam 2024. Conversation series and salon programs were part of our efforts to find answers to these questions. LIFEPLUS hopes to understand the ever-chaning and evolving essense of the art world and translate them into arts and culture experiences. LIFEPLUS sincerely hope that as we share the artistic inspirations through Salon Hannam 2024, visitors will leave with enhanced appreciation of their everyday lives, while this project resonate with various cultural events taking place across Seoul this September.
